That was one of the fantastic inning. Specially the last over when you were in 90s and hit those three 6s. that was great.

The funny part was that this guy was telling me that he need to get out once he reached his 50. I do not think that time it was in his mind that he should go for a hundred. But it was just great display of hard running, taking singles and then hitting big shots when it required.

Cricket rule no. 1.

“no matter if pollard is waiting in the dug out, but if a batsmen has been playing for 15 overs, he is more dangerous than anyone in the world”

I know that lot of the guys must be waiting for some sort the story about the match after all it was special. So i will take out some time and will write a sunny story for all of you guys who were not there.

The day started on a very good note, guys having fun, a friendly atmosphere, some comic comments going and coming from everywhere. Some personal bets. A nice coffee and of-course a team bonding.

the weather was rather bad, cold and rainy. We stated batting. Lizo and prashant opened the batting and prashant started in style. A style which we all have seen earlier. Some massive six, great punches and great running. Lizo started well, supporting prashant but could not convert a start in to a big inning. But he ran like he always do (passionately).

Lizo’s moment of the day

“He went for a quick run and the throw came right on to the stumps, but our running hero muscled his way in to the crease and got up after some deadly rolls and neck bending.

After lizo went out, It was time for Ranjendra to go in, he started in style with some lovely off side shots and some nice leg side drives. At the other end, prashant was taking it little easy and rotating strike. Soon he reached his 50 and we all thought that he has set him self for a big hundred. But a leg side bowl just brush his bat and keeper took the catch. It was a soft dismissal for Prashant. But he had set the tone. A great inning came to end.

So it was time for Sunny Mahipal to go in.

Sunny played first few deliveries with the bat and next few with air. But soon he settle down. Rajendra was playing great at the other hand. Taking single hitting bad balls to the boundary. Soon Sunny started hitting shots as well.

Sunny moment of the match:

The other team had five fielders in the leg side for sunny after he hitting some boundary to leg side. All the LCC team mates can understand how funny was that.

Ranjendra kept on playing a great inning and soon reached his fifty. Once he was there we wanting to cut loose. And he did. Hitting some sizzling shots. Sunny followed him and reached his fifty soon.

But soon sunny got out trying to muscled the delivery to boundary. But rajendra was playing inning of his life at the other end. One of LCC’c power hitter Praveen went it to utilize the platform batsmen have made. But uneven pitch and some smart bowling didn’t let him cut loose. But Ranjendra was seeing the ball like a boxing pad, hitting it hard, long and high.

Praveen got out trying to hit a big shot, and Rohit went in. It was second last over in process. He took singles and gave strike to Ranjendra. Suddenly we all realize that he Rajendra must be close to 100. And the message was send to him that he is close to hundred. He did not wait for singles to do it.

Rajendra moment of the match.

Last over, first ball. couple, next ball six and Ranjendra became the first LCC player to score a century. He did not stop there; he hit two more sixes to make it a really big over for the team. (thats what made the difference at the end)

In all great batting performance. Some hard hitting, some clean shots, some quick runs and some smart thinking.

Bowling;

I would not take a lot of time about the bowling performance. so a short one for the second inning.

Praveen and Junaid opened the bowling. The other team knew that they need a quick start to achieve 266 in 35 overs. And thats exactly what they did. first 2 overs 38 runs. Five over almost 70 runs. And they were cursing ahead. Then came some smart thinking from the keeper (kamal) who threw the bowl to the bowling end, bails were off and the batsmen walking.

Sportsmen ship of the day

“it was a close run out call and the umpire did not want to give it. but the batsmen walked himself. Great thing to see in a cricket field. And he was the one who scored most of the runs.

the first change pull thing back. Prashant bowled a great line and length and didn’t let batsmen to score runs. From 16-17 runs per over, he helped dragging it to 6-7 per over. The next change was Rajendra who was backing himself after a great inning. He bowled well, slippery shoes and wet weather, not an ideal condition for a bowler to bowl. He supported Prashant really well. Because of the weather there were lots of drop catches. the bowl was heavy and hard and even our best fielders drooped the catches.

But Praveen held on to one in style. With one hand (intently). “I wanted to show them man”

Things looked like they were settling down, but suddenly the batsmen started to hit long and high again. And the paradise looked in Danger. The 5th bowling change was made. And Lijo was given the bowl. He bowled smartly. Tried to keep the batsmen guessing.

Some sixes here and they and some boundaries. The other team was in the game again. The bowl then was given to Praveen again and he did the trick.

Bowled!!! a beautiful bowled just nipping the bails. The team did not realize that he has just bowled the batsmen. And then he never let the batsmen settle down. Beautiful bowling. We thought it will be easy win from there, but batsmen had some other plans. Some big sixes to Lijo and Ranjendra. The paradise looked in danger again.

Then Junaid was called back to bowl. Who has bowled only 2 overs earlier and had been hit for some runs. But this time batsmen had no clue about his deliveries. Last three overs, the team needed 40 runs. 33rd over Junaid bowled beautifully. the next over Ranjendra. the batsmen knew that they need to hit some big runs. and they tried and get succeeded a few times. But a brilliant over from the “Drunken Monk”. The stump were all over the place and the batsman had no clue about it. A Ranjendra special delivery. The over ended with a six. Which means that they needed 15 runs from last over. Junaid was given the ball. And he “Junaid” did it in style.

Final over 15 to win. couples of runs and wicket. Junaid sealed the match with LCC winning in style.

Some great batting, some super bowling and some great fielding. Ya some dropped catch as well. But that happens.

The un-glamoured heroes of the match.

Kamal, for a great keeping, some great stops, some great catches, Some funny misses. Warner some superb fielding, (our flying boy), Mani some great stops some supered throws. Ravi, great commitment even after he had 5 stitches. Some super stops, great work with drying the ball.

And a great work by Shiva, driving us, umpiring, supporting from outside. thank man, you were a great support.

This is one of the first win, and it’s a start to a great season ahead. The bar has been raised, pull up your socks and be ready for some adventure.

One very important thing.

Winning and losing is a part of game. The other team played really well, but we won. That does not mean that they were not proud and happy. At the end of the day it matter how well you played. Not if you won or lost. You can lose after a great effort and you can win after a sloppy work. But what is important is that you can be united and can have fun. I knew yesterday was special; I thanks the guys in Kamal, Prashant and Junaid for setting a great mood for the match even before we reached the ground. It’s important to have fun, enjoy each-other’s company and play good cricket. Winning and losing is part of life.

We shall always play like one team not like 11 people. So keep you spirits high and mood fun. and let’s play some good cricket.

The ground is located (indicated by the red circle) on Revingevägen (road # 958) in Södra Sandby. If you are walking up or driving from Södra Sandby Centrum (indicated by the filled black circle), you will find it on your left side after about 500 meters.

Directions by bus:

Take the Line 166 from Lund Centrum towards Södra Sandby. Alight at the last stop to find yourselves at Södra Sandby Centrum indicated by the black circle in the above map.

Travel time approximately 20 minutes. Then take the walking path beside Revingevägen to reach the ground.

You can also take the same bus from Höjdpunkten near Ericsson AB or from Ideon or Universitets Sjukhuset in Lund. Travel time is approximately 10 minutes.

Driving from Lund Centrum:

Take the following route to reach the circulation point between Nörra Ringen and E22 as shown in above map
Bangatan – Sankt Laurentligatan – Bredgatan – Gettingevägen – Norra Ringen. At the circulation, follow signs towards Södra Sandby and drive for another 10 kms until you reach the Södra Sandby Centrum and follow the directions in the first map thereafter.

Driving from Malmö

Drive on E22 bound North and take the Lund North exit (# 22) at to reach the criculation point in above map. Swing right on to Odarslövägen continues to follow signs towards Södra Sandby for another 10 kms from the circulation until you reach the Södra Sandby Centrum and follow the directions in the first thereafter.
